Fellowship Chairman Peter Lewis-Jones welcomed guests to the Carisbrooke Hall at the Victory Services Club for the Annual London Lunch. In particular he extended a warm welcome to the our principal guest, Christopher Macgowan, one of the automobile industry’s best known figures, having been CEO of both the Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders and the Retail Motor Industry Federation, as well as a former interim Chief Executive of BEN.
Peter also welcomed Andrew Gault, the winner of the recently awarded inaugral FMI Bursary. Andrew was presented with his award at the recent IMI Outstanding Achievers Awards Ceremony by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent and was warmly congratulated on his achievement by everybody present.
Finally, Peter Lewis-Jones welcomed Gary Burgham, the HR director of BEN who after the meal was presented with a cheque, by the FMI President Tony Ham, for £5,000 representing the Fellowship’s donation to BEN for the past 12 months.
After an excellent lunch Peter Lewis-Jones explained that rather than a prolonged raffle it had been decided to have some fun playing Heads & Tails once again this year with the winner taking home half of the accumulated money that was raised from the table collection.
The game continued until Fellow Paul Harding was the last man standing and won half the money that had been collected, with the other half going to the Fellowship’s charity account. Paul very kindly gave half of his winnings back which resulted in a total of £495 being raised for the Fellowship’s charity account.
Peter Lewis-Jones then introduced Christopher Macgowan who proposed the toast to The Fellowship in a wonderfully lighthearted manner calling on many of his memories of a lifetime in the Industry. Talk of the Austin Maxi, shots of Redex and other similar names from the past brought back many happy memories for everyone present.
President Tony Ham brought matters to a conclusion by thanking Christopher Macgowan for such an excellent speech and formally presenting the Fellowship’s cheque to Gary Bugham from BEN.
