The Tony Jennings Classic Car Show, in memory of our past President and much respected industry figure, was again held at BEN’s Care Centre, Town Thorns, near Rugby on Sunday 6th August.
The event also included a Fete organised by BEN and made for a wonderful spectacle in the lovely grounds of Town Thorns. The weather was very kind to us, which makes all the difference, and FMI members enjoyed much fun and fellowship in and around our Marquee. A fabulous cold buffet was served at lunchtime, enjoyed by nearly 30 fellows and friends, and was washed down by a few Pimm’s!
The Classic Car Show was very well supported and we had a record number of cars on display - just over 100. As usual the array of cars spanned 6 decades, and there were some superb examples of saloons, sportscars and specialist vehicles. During the day Mike Garton, our Chairman Brian Childs, and Peter Cottle viewed all the cars to establish a winner in the Pre-1960 and Post-1960 categories, Julie Jennings then choose the “Best Car in Show”.
After some serious debate the winners were decided upon, and were each presented with a cup and bottle of champagne by Julie Jennings and Brian Childs. The winners were as follows:
Best Car in Show – 1973 Porsche 356 - Martin Smith
Pre 1960 – 1933 Riley Lynx - Mike Barrett
Post 1960 – 1962 Triumph TR4 - Keith Hoskins
We were pleased that BEN had a successful funding raising day, and thank them for their help in erecting our marquees and providing tables and chairs. Julie Jennings very kindly made a personal donation of £500 to BEN.
We are looking forward to next years event, which subject to confirmation will be held on August 5th.
